GENE-ENVIRONMENT INTERACTIONS IN CARDIOVASCULAR AND METABOLIC DISEASES
Although progress has been made in treating cardiometabolic diseases and their risk factors, these diseases are still the leading cause of death worldwide. The interplay between genetic and environmental factors is essentially involved in their development; several studies have identified environmental and behavioural factors that modify the known genetic risks. The mechanisms, however, remain largely unclarified. The integration of new omics techniques is expected to shed light into the mechanisms and to pave the way for the development of novel treatment options.
The XIX Yrjö Jahnsson Medical Symposium is organized to explore and discuss the interactions between the genes, environment and behaviour in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases and to highlight new possibilities in disease treatment and prevention.
The Symposium will bring together top scientists from Europe, USA and Japan to fuel interaction between researchers and to provide ideas and inspiration for future work.
The 2-day’s event is hosted by the Yrjö Jahnsson Foundation, which is a private trust that promotes academic research in economics, health economics and medical sciences.
The Symposium will be held during 24.-25.8.2017 at Hotel Hilton Kalastajatorppa, Helsinki.
